Over 80 fundraisers donned their walking boots for charity last month for the third-annual Cricket Derbyshire Foundation T20 Walkathon.
Participants made the 20-mile journey from Nottinghamshire’s Trent Bridge ground to The Pattonair County Ground on foot, ahead of the Vitality Blast clash between Derbyshire Falcons and Notts Outlaws.
All walkers received bus travel to Trent Bridge, donated by Trent Barton, for the start of the walk, as well as a sponsored walkathon t-shirt and an event pack.
After finishing, the walkers were able to take in a thrilling East Midlands Derby between the Falcons and the Outlaws, in the first Vitality Blast match played in Derby this season.
All proceeds raised have gone to the Cricket Derbyshire Foundation (Charity No. 1155801) and will support the delivery of a range of community projects to young people across the county, using the power of sport, with more than £6,000 raised.
CDF Development Officer, Charlotte Flindall, said: “Thank you to all participants for joining us on this year’s Cricket Derbyshire Foundation T20 Walkathon with official sponsors Huub, Century Mobile and RDS Global from Trent Bridge to The Pattonair County Ground.
“It was an amazing effort to see nearly 90 people take part on the day itself, with grit and determination to complete the challenge.
“Please join us in congratulating the teams from Pattonair, Hub A Team and Century Mobile, who won the Air IT Walkathon Trophy for being the first teams to cross the finish line. The winner, picked at random by the Head of Derbyshire Cricket Board, Richard Wood, of the Hydration Challenge went to Adam Cooper from Pattonair Central who enjoyed a bottle of champagne with his team mates.
“I am sure you will join us too in thanking all our sponsors, partners and volunteers who helped to prepare and manage the Walkathon. A huge amount of work goes into arranging the event to ensure that everything runs safely and smoothly.
“In total we hope to have been able to raise in excess of £6,000 and the money raised will help fund our holiday hunger programme in the Derwent ward this summer.”
