Wayne Madsen says that Derbyshire’s six-wicket victory over Northants Steelbacks will give the Falcons some much-needed momentum in the Vitality Blast.
Madsen struck an unbeaten 59 as the visitors claimed their second win in this-year’s competition, while Luis Reece (60) and Ravi Rampaul (3-17) also played key roles.
With four matches in the space of seven days coming up, including a trip to face Yorkshire Vikings, Madsen says that the victory at Wantage Road will lift the Falcons as they go forward in the Vitality Blast.
“Getting that win for us, and a really good run-chase, will build momentum going into the middle of the competition,” said Madsen.
“We have got some important games coming up, but every game is important in this competition. Building momentum before those games that are stacked up is good.
“We have improved in the last few games, we have been getting closer and closer, so it is really rewarding to get over the line against Northants.”
Of those four matches, the Falcons have a hat-trick of home matches starting with the visit of Durham on Friday 9 August, before hosting Worcestershire Rapids on Tuesday 13 August and Leicestershire Foxes on Thursday 15 August.
Both home matches played so far have been in front of sell-out crowds, and Madsen says that the support of the Derbyshire fans will be a major boost for the Falcons.
“A win like this will hopefully show the supporters what we have got. We have been close in other games, but haven’t quite got over the line. In some of the bigger moments, we haven’t quite been on it,” added Madsen.
“Tonight, we played really well with bat and ball, so to get the supporters down and behind us for the next three important home games is going to be crucial.”
