Wednesday 28th August 2019
Written by Stephen Martin

Derbyshire name a 13-man squad ahead of the three-day Aston Lark Tourist Fixture against Australia at The Pattonair County Ground.

Captain Billy Godleman will continue in the top-order alongside Luis Reece, while Leus du Plooy will be hoping to replicate the kind of form that saw him hit a century against Australia A in 50-over clash earlier this season.

Harvey Hosein returns to the squad, while Alex Hughes, Matt Critchley and Anuj Dal are all named after helping the Falcons to a place in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals.

Tony Palladino will lead a bowling attack which contains Alfie Gleadall, Sam Conners, Dustin Melton and Hamidullah Qadri, while Mattie McKiernan is also named in the squad.

Opposition

Australia travel to Derby hoping to get time in the middle ahead of their crucial fourth Ashes Test against England at Emirates Old Trafford.

Steve Smith returns to action in Derby after missing the third Test due to concussion protocol, as England levelled the series. He will be looking to prove his fitness at The Pattonair County Ground, having hit more than 300 runs across three innings during the 2019 Ashes.

Mitchell Starc will feature for a strong Australia bowling unit that also features Peter Siddle and Michael Neser.

Usman Khawaja will captain the side on his return to Derbyshire, who he played for in the 2011 and 2012 season, while Cameron Bancroft and Matthew Wade have all been named in the squad.
