Billy Godleman struck an unbeaten 52 as the Derbyshire Falcons beat Leicestershire Foxes to edge closer to a place in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals.

Godleman and Wayne Madsen (37 not out) saw Derbyshire to a second-consecutive nine-wicket win, after Leicestershire had posted a total of 124-9.

Mark Cosgrove (45) started positively as the hosts reached 50 in the sixth over, before he was run out by Logan van Beek, before  Matt Critchley (2-18) swung momentum in Derbyshire’s favour, with Luis Reece (2-9) also claiming the wickets of Aadil Ali (8) and Callum Parkinson (6).

The hosts did not reach three figures until the 16th over, as good bowling from Derbyshire prevented them from building a large total.

Leicestershire closed on 124-9, with Ravi Rampaul running out Dieter Klein (9) off the final ball of the innings.

Reece and Godleman started the chase strongly and put on 58 for the first wicket, before the former was caught by Will Davis off Callum Parkinson for 29.

Having guided the Falcons home on Friday night, the pairing of Godleman and Madsen once again powered their way through the innings, combining to make 70 runs.

Godleman reached his half-century in 52 balls, including three fours and two sixes, before Madsen confirmed the win with a boundary of his own.

The Falcons remain in the top four heading into their final group game against Lancashire at Old Trafford tomorrow.
