After Derbyshire booked their place at Finals Day for the first time, we take a look at some key moments from the Vitality Blast quarter-final win over Gloucestershire.

1: Hudson-Prentice makes the breakthrough

Having scored 44 runs in the first 5.3 overs, the hosts seemed to be moving along comfortably in Bristol until Fynn Hudson-Prentice in his second over.

Miles Hammond had powered his way to 31 before the all-rounder had him caught by a diving Alex Hughes in the final over of the Powerplay.

The hosts struggled to rebuild their momentum after the opening wicket, with the Falcons limiting them to a modest score in Bristol.

2: Klinger is run out

Gloucestershire’s highest run-scorer in the competition, Michael Klinger’s final match at Bristol would not be the fairytale ending some might have hoped for.

The batsman had made a steady 15 in the Powerplay before miscommunication saw him ran out by Ravi Rampaul just two balls after Hughes had dismissed James Bracey.

An explosive hitter, who has the potential to take a game away from the opposition, Klinger’s wicket was a big one for the Falcons as momentum swung back into their favour.

3: Tye’s 19-run over

Defending a total of 135 was never going to be easy for Gloucestershire, but conceding just six runs in the first over will have given them some confidence.

However, Billy Godleman and Luis Reece quickly fought back in the second over. Andrew Tye struggled to contain the openers, as they cracked 19 runs to move well ahead of the run-rate.

4: Third-wicket stand

Throughout the Blast, the top-order has been a key strength for the Falcons, with Godleman, Reece, Wayne Madsen and Leus du Plooy all producing good form.

The latter two would take centre-stage in Bristol. After Godleman and Reece laid the foundations, Madsen (47) and du Plooy (29 not out) put on a 72-run partnership to all but secure victory.

Madsen fell just short of his half-century, but his crucial innings propelled the Falcons to their first-ever Finals Day appearance.

5: Hughes sees the Falcons home

In the latter part of the group stage, Alex Hughes was something of an unsung hero. His bowling in particular has been crucial for the Falcons throughout, keeping the runs down while pitching in with important wickets.

It was fitting that he was at the crease the drive the ball through the off-side to the rope to confirm a fourth-consecutive victory and a place  at Finals Day.
