Wayne Madsen can’t wait to get back into training with Derbyshire after enjoying an important rest period.

The players are due to return to training at the start of next month, as they prepare for the 2020 season.

Billy Godleman, Luis Reece, Matt Critchley, Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Mattie McKiernan will all be playing cricket abroad throughout November, but the bulk of the squad will be beginning their winter training in Derby next week.

Madsen says that the time away since the end of a busy season has allowed him to recharge, and he is looking forward to getting down to work with the rest of the squad.

“It’s been good to get away from the game for a bit and have a rest, I’ve been ticking over in the gym and I’m ready to go when we get back in training at the start of November.” Madsen said.

“It’s very important to get the balance right with enjoying your cricket and having enough time away to refresh, both physically and mentally, so that we can be prepared for next season.

“It’s always exciting. We live in each others’ pockets for six months, so it is nice to spend that little bit of time away and then it’s awesome when you get back into training and see everybody again.

“Some of the lads are playing around the world, but most of the squad are still here so it’ll be great to catch up with everyone and get back in the dressing room.”
