Dominic Cork is targeting further success in the Vitality Blast with Derbyshire after committing to another year with the club.

After guiding the Falcons to a maiden Finals Day appearance in 2019, Cork will return in his role as Twenty20 Head Coach next season, linking up with Head of Cricket Dave Houghton and the rest of the coaching team.

Cork will also be reunited with much of the squad that reached the semi-final last year, Billy Godleman, Luis Reece, Wayne Madsen, Leus du Plooy, Ravi Rampaul and Matt Critchley all hoping to build on a stellar Twenty20 season, while Australian duo Sean Abbott and Ben McDermott will also be available for selection.

The former fast bowler is delighted with the quality within the Derbyshire squad, but he says they will have to be prepared for fresh challenges in 2020 if they are to reach Finals Day again.

“This club has always had young talent, at times we have not been able to keep it so that is really impressive that we still have the bulk of the squad together,” said Cork.

“Throw in two very good overseas signings in Sean Abbott and Ben McDermott, and we as a squad have to push on from here.

“It is alright saying how good last season was, but now it’s about whether we can do it again, for a second year?, can we reach quarter-finals and Finals Day? Business has still got to be done. I have been brought in for success, and I want to win the competition .

“It’s not going to be easy, there will be sides out there that are thinking ‘hang on, we probably didn’t look at Derbyshire as the strength that they had’ so they will be coming at us harder than they did last year and the squad will have to be up for it.”
