Ben McDermott smashed a quick-fire 31 from just 17 deliveries, but he could not prevent Hobart Hurricanes from a defeat to Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash.
The wicketkeeper-batsman, who will join Derbyshire for this year’s Vitality Blast and Royal London Cup, hit one four and two sixes in a 60-run partnership with David Miller (90 not out).
However, Hobart were unable to chase down the target of 187 to win the contest, with Adelaide securing a ten-run victory.
McDermott has now scored 198 runs in the competition, at an average of 24.75 and a strike-rate of 117.85, with only D’Arcy Short (248) scoring more for the Hurricanes this season.
Matt Critchley
Matt Critchley managed 18 for Fairfield-Liverpool before play was abandoned in their NSW Premier Cricket – First Grade fixture against Hawkesbury.
Fairfield-Liverpool batted first in the 50-over clash, with Critchley opening the batting. He struck two fours in his 39-ball innings, before being dismissed.
They managed 175-8 from their 50 overs, but Hawkesbury were unable to start their innings due to rain, which eventually led to the match being abandoned.
