Derbyshire players and cricket staff have almost doubled their fundraising target in support of Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity.

The Two Point Six Challenge, which was coordinated by all-rounder Fynn Hudson-Prentice as part of the national campaign to support charities, saw 12 runners each complete 2.6 miles as part of a relay marathon.

Initially setting themselves the target of £500, the players have now raised over £900 with all funds going to the club’s Official Charity Partner to aid the exhaustive work they’re currently carrying out across their five hospitals.

Over 12,000 Trust staff in Derbyshire and South-East Staffordshire are working around the clock, as are key workers up and down the country, to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Hudson-Prentice said: “It has been great to see the support we have received from the local community after Sunday. We were initially setting out to try and raise £500, to see the figure now at over £900 is fantastic and shows what an amazing job our local hospitals are doing at this tough time.”

Marie Gretton, of Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity, added: “Our NHS needs support now, more than ever and were so proud to see our local team fundraising for us. It was incredibly inspirational to see the team band together and we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone that took part, and to everyone that donated to support them. The money raised will go a tremendous way in supporting everyone at team UHDB and we simply cannot thank the team, and everyone who donated, enough for their support.”
