Ahead of our Vitality Blast opener against Leicestershire Foxes, we take a look at the players who could be key for the opposition.
Dominic Cork’s Falcons will begin their white-ball campaign on the site of their penultimate group game in 2019, in which they put in a dominant performance to win by nine wickets and all but secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Last year’s history makers will be looking to start the tournament with a win against a team who propped up the table last time out. However, Derbyshire will have to be wary of Leicestershire’s main threat, Colin Ackermann.
The all-rounder, Ackermann, holds the world-record for his bowling performance against the Birmingham Bears last year, in which he took seven wickets for 18 runs as he spun his team to victory. The Leicestershire skipper is also handy with the bat, scoring 2,454 runs in 107 games.
While Leicestershire struggled in the 2019 competition, Ackermann showed his prowess with both bat and ball, topping the club’s charts for runs with 342 at an average of 28.50, including two half- centuries, along with 12 wickets at an average of just 12.41.
