After England secured a 5-0 Vitality IT20 Series win over the West Indies at The Incora™ County Ground, we take a look back at their extraordinary summer in Derby.

In a manner typical of this topsy-turvy year, the final game of the series was not settled in familiar fashion, as the weather intervened to reduce the fifth match to five overs per-side.

To round off a stunning series, the hosts chased down their target of 42 with three balls to spare, meaning that Heather Knight’s side won all five games on our home ground.

The tone was set early in game one, when Tammy Beaumont smashed 62 from just 49 balls, setting the West Indies a target of 164 to win, before wickets from Nat Sciver (2-16), Sophie Ecclestone (2-19) and Sarah Glenn (1-27) restricted the visitors to 116-6 in reply, earning a 47-run victory.

Derbyshire-born spinner, Glenn, looked right at home during the series, and it showed as she made big contributions in games two and three, claiming a brace of wickets in each and top-scoring with a hard-hitting 26 in the second match to help her side win the series.

She continued that form right to the very end, and was named Player of the Series after picking up seven wickets at an average of 12.00, with best figures of 2-15.

Other notable performers included Sciver, whose 82 in the third IT20 helped England to take an unassailable 3-0 lead, while Amy Jones scored an important 55 in her side’s fourth-consecutive win.

For the West Indies, Deandra Dottin was the key performer, with her average of 37.00 and runs-tally of 185 the highest of any batter in the series, while Shamilia Connell led the way with the ball, claiming seven wickets at an average of 19.28.

In such trying and uncertain times, thank you to the West Indies for making the journey over and playing such a fantastic series, which was about so much more than cricket.
