Derbyshire Abroad: McDermott hits 91

Tuesday 5th January 2021
Written by Stephen Martin

Ben McDermott continued his brilliant form with a 58-ball 91, but the wicketkeeper-batsman could not guide Hobart Hurricanes to victory.

Set 184 to win by Melbourne Stars, the Australia international got third-placed Hobart on their way by smashing eight fours and five sixes, as he moved to the top of this season’s BBL run-scoring charts.

With 277 runs at an average of 55.40 from just six innings, McDermott leads the way in the competition, but he could not see his team home on this occasion, falling nine runs short of a second Twenty20 century, thanks to a stunning catch on the boundary from Andre Fletcher.

The Stars would keep it tight in the final over to claim a ten-run victory, taking them to fourth in the Big Bash standings, while Hobart sit in third place, just three points off top spot.
