Video: Fighting spirit key for Cork

Dominic Cork believes Derbyshire’s determination to improve will be the catalyst for their forthcoming Vitality Blast campaign.

Cork will return as Twenty20 Head Coach for the 2021 season, having taken charge in the previous two years and leading the side to a maiden Finals Day appearance in 2019.

The Falcons struggled in the format during 2020, while playing every game on the road, and were unable to progress out of the group stage, but a season of experience for the promising bowling attack, and the addition of Australia’s Ben McDermott has created a sense of optimism amongst the squad and coaching staff.

Cork is looking forward to working with the squad again, and says that the team are determined to earn results for the supporters, no matter where they are watching the matches from.

“Last year was tough for me, I hate losing. I didn’t like losing as a player and I don’t like it as a coach,” he said.

“But the experience that some of our guys got last year, playing against some top opposition away from home, hopefully we will reap the benefits of that when they’re in their own environment, at The Incora County Ground and playing for the badge.

“Hopefully the Members will be watching in the ground and we can show them just the kind of side we are, because we are going to fight for every single ball and, hopefully, fight our way to victories.”
