Matt Critchley says Derbyshire’s players are delighted with the news that supporters will return to matches this summer, and he believes it can have a positive impact for everyone.
Supporters have not been able to attend fixtures since 2019, with the coronavirus pandemic leading to all cricket being played behind-closed-doors last season. However, it was announced this week that the safe return of spectators to sporting events is due to begin from Monday 17 May, with capacity restrictions hoped to be lifted from Monday 21 June.
With the first batch of Band One Vitality Blast tickets now released, Derbyshire supporters can secure their place at The Incora™ County Ground or Queen’s Park for this season’s T20 campaign, with demand expected to be high.
Critchley says that the team will be relishing the reunion with supporters and hopes that they can inspire some of the younger members of the fanbase with their performances too.
“We can’t wait to have the fans back in, it’s really positive news,” said Critchley.
“It’s always good to play in front of crowds, it’s why we play the game, to do well for all the Members and supporters of Derbyshire. To be able to play in front of kids and inspire them, it’s something we’re really excited for.
“Playing is playing, you enjoy it but you want it to be in front of the supporters, we can’t wait to do that again, because just having people around to get behind you will make it so much better.
“It’s such a good atmosphere for the T20 games, when you’re playing well and you get the crowd on your side, because they expect to see good cricket, so it’s an amazing feeling when you can produce that for them.”
