The 2021 fixtures for Derbyshire’s Second XI campaign have been released, with the squad beginning their season with a four-day fixture against Northamptonshire.
Competing in both the Second XI Championship and Twenty20 competitions, Derbyshire will play at a variety of grounds, with home fixtures being hosted at The Incora™ County Ground, Belper, Denby and Repton.
Second XI cricket has played a pivotal role in finding and preparing players for a career with Derbyshire in recent years. Dustin Melton, Sam Conners, Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Tom Wood have all forced their way into the first team setup from the seconds environment.
With a greater emphasis placed on developing homegrown players for the first team, Academy prospects will be given the opportunity to thrive in Second XI, alongside more experienced members of the team.
While restrictions on attendance at live sports events remain in place, Second XI fixtures will be played behind closed doors.
