Anuj Dal’s 117 wasn’t enough to prevent defeat for Derbyshire in their Second XI Championship game against Leicestershire at Kibworth.
Dal’s knock was the joint-highest score in the match, with the all-rounder one of three centurions, alongside the hosts’ George Rhodes (117) and Scott Steel (113).
Set a target of 357 to win on the final day, Derbyshire were bowled out for 242, with Mattie McKiernan’s 93 the highlight of a difficult second innings for the visitors. Abidine Sakande claimed 5-32 to secure victory for Leicestershire.
Having won the toss and electing to bat, opener Rhodes set about getting his side into a positive position, supported by half-centuries from Will Davis (68), Sam Bates (68) and Louis Kimber (67), his 117 helped the home side put on 454 in their first innings, despite figures of 3-44 from Alex Hughes.
Derbyshire started strongly, with Harry Came (85) putting on 178 for the third wicket with Dal, who reached his century in 184 balls, including 15 fours, before the visitors declared on 393-6.
Steel would be the only player to pass 50 in Leicestershire’s second innings, but his century allowed them to declare on the final afternoon, 295-9, setting Derbyshire a target of 357.
McKiernan hit 14 boundaries in his 93, but only three other Derbyshire batsmen reached double figures as they were bowled out for 242.
