Derbyshire County Cricket Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Chesterfield Cricket Club Chairman, Mike Taylor, after a long and brave fight against illness.
Mike was passionate about cricket at all levels in Chesterfield, from the thriving junior All Stars programme, to the senior team in the Derbyshire Premier League, as part of a club which has seen the likes of Ben Slater progress to the professional game.
He was also an advocate for the BRM Solicitors Chesterfield Festival of Cricket and alongside a dedicated team of volunteers at Queen’s Park, including wife Jan and many close friends, Mike was an instrumental part of what is, for many, the highlight of the cricket calendar.
Chesterfield Cricket Club announced that Mike died peacefully at home on Thursday surrounded by his family. The thoughts of everyone at Derbyshire are with Jan and the rest of the family at this time.
Chesterfield will announce next week a number of ways in which to celebrate Mike’s tremendous contribution. This will include putting in place a suitable channel in which people can record their extended memories of Mike. This will be subject to the agreement of his family and Derbyshire will notify supporters as appropriate via the club website.
