Matt Critchley has been named in Wisden’s County Championship Team of the Month for April, after starting the season strongly with bat and ball, while he has also been nominated for PCA Player of the Month.
The all-rounder hit 483 runs at an average of 60.37, including one century and four half-centuries, during the first month of the season, while he also took 15 wickets, with best figures of 5-67 against Worcestershire.
Such performances have also led to Critchley being nominated for PCA Player of the Month, alongside Craig Overton, David Bedingham and Ryan Higgins. You can vote for him below.
Having made crucial knocks in draws against Warwickshire and Durham, Critchley has been key for Derbyshire this season, and the 24-year-old has previously spoken about wanting to become a ‘match-winner’ for the club.
“That’s always what I want to achieve for Derbyshire – to be a match-winner and help the Club to win trophies,” he said.
“That’s what we all want. if I can do that through my performances, then great. I’m too young to have watched those players [Chris Adams and Dominic Cork] at Derbyshire, but I know they’re Club greats and had amazing careers.
“I don’t think too much about comparisons, but if I can have similar success to what they had, then I will have done something right!
“In my time at Derbyshire, I look to the likes of Billy [Godleman] and Wayne [Madsen] as the greats in our dressing room. I’ve played with them both for a long time now and they’ve both helped me a lot with my game.”
