Billy Godleman says Derbyshire’s preparation will be key for their LV= County Championship fixture against Durham, but the squad are looking forward to the added boost of Members in the ground.

The squad return to The Incora County Ground aiming to bounce back from a heavy defeat to Essex, which leaves them without a win in five games this season.

Durham are the visitors this week, with entry to the fixture exclusively for Derbyshire Members, and they come into the game off the back of two victories.

Godleman says that the work leading up to the game will determine how Derbyshire approach the game, and believes that having the support of Members in the ground will play a big factor.

“We’ve talked about it a lot over the last year or so, but we’ve really missed our Members,” he told BBC Radio Derby.

“We’re really welcoming them back, we’ve missed the atmosphere that they bring so it’ll be exciting to play in front of them.

“We can expect a difficult game against Durham, on paper they have the best seam attack in the country. It’ll be a tough four days, but its so important that we use our 24 hours (after the Essex game) to re-energise and see other parts of your life, away from cricket.

“Then it’s about making sure that we prepare best for our next opportunity, which is on Thursday at home.”

Godleman also praised batsman Brooke Guest, who made a career-best score in each innings against Essex after being promoted to number three in the order.

“Guesty played excellently in both innings, against seam and spin,” he added.

“He’s got a good history of batting in the top three, for various teams that he’s played for and I know from speaking to him, he was really excited to move back up the order. You could really see that from the quality of his play.”
