Alex Hughes is progressing well in his recovery from a side strain and rib injury, with hopes the all-rounder will feature in this season’s Royal London Cup.
Hughes picked up the injury in Derbyshire’s Vitality Blast win over Leicestershire Foxes in June, subsequently missing the remainder of that competition, as well as two LV= County Championship matches. He continues to work with the club’s medical team and has recently been stepping up his recovery in the gym.
It’s expected he will begin cricket practice within the next week, and club medical staff are confident Hughes will feature in the 50-over competition, providing his level of progress remains high.
Longer-term absentee, Wayne Madsen, is making good progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury, with the batsman having an outside chance of featuring before the end of the season, although no timescale is being placed on his return to action at this time.
Bowlers Sam Conners (hip tendon tear) and Dustin Melton (heel) remain out, but are targeting a return to the field before the end of the season after encouraging regular assessments.
Melton is now out of his protective boot and has been doing weight work in the gym, while Conners is in constant communication with the medical team around his own progress.
All-rounder Anuj Dal (broken finger) will have a specialist review next week, with the aim of returning to impact batting soon, it is hoped the 25-year-old will be able to feature in the Royal London Cup. Young quick, Nick Potts, is himself awaiting a specialist appointing to assess his bowling ankle injury.
