Tom Wood struck an unbeaten 67 as Derbyshire drew the Second XI Championship fixture against Yorkshire at Weetwood.
Wood top-scored in the second innings, as Derbyshire moved into a commanding position at the close of Day Two, leading by 205 runs in the second innings, before the final two days were abandoned in line with Covid protocol, resulting in a draw, following a positive lateral flow test within the Yorkshire group.
Having won the toss and choosing to bat, Derbyshire started strongly through Tyler McGladdery’s 77, as well as runs from Nils Priestley (38) and Anuj Dal (32), which helped the visitors to a first innings total of 299.
Derbyshire took momentum from their batting into the bowling performance, with Mattie McKiernan (3-40) and Ed Moulton (3-48) the standout bowlers, while Dal (2-49) and Ben Aitchison (2-45) also claimed key wickets to dismiss the hosts for 207.
Wood took centre-stage for the remainder of the second day, hitting 11 fours and one six on his way to 67 not out, leaving Derbyshire looking the side more likely to pick up a win, before Covid protocol brought an end to proceedings.
