Derbyshire’s Leus du Plooy will play domestic cricket in South Africa for South Western Districts during the winter months.

The left-handed batter, who was named Derbyshire’s Vitality Blast Player of the Year in 2021, has joined up with the South Western Districts squad, and could make his debut in the CSA Provincial T20 Cup quarter-final against Titans on Tuesday 19 October.

The CSA Four-Day Franchise Series will see South Western Districts compete in Division Two, with their opening fixture against Mpumalanga beginning on Friday 5 November.

Prior to joining Derbyshire in 2019, du Plooy enjoyed a prolific career in South Africa, scoring more than 2,500 first-class runs at an average of 48.08, while his most recent stint in his home nation saw him finish as leading run-scorer for Northerns in the 2019 Provincial One-Day Challenge with 595 runs at an average of 74.12, including three centuries and two half-centuries.

The 26-year-old will return to Derbyshire in the New Year to begin training ahead of the 2022 English domestic season. Be sure to follow the Club Website and official social media channels for updates on Leus’ progress.
