Ben Aitchison is looking forward to his first full season in front of Derbyshire supporters in 2022, and the young quick is expecting another positive year for the promising bowling attack.
Aitchison was the Club’s leading wicket-taker in red ball cricket last season, picking up 34 LV= County Championship wickets, while he was one of three young seamers to claim a maiden first-class five-wicket haul for Derbyshire, along with Sam Conners and Mikey Cohen.
As the season approaches, Aitchison is excited to play in front of Derbyshire Members and supporters for the full season, after playing the whole of his debut 2020 campaign, and part of 2021, behind-closed-doors.
“It was obviously very good when we got supporters back last season, it was the first time I’d played with our fans in the ground,” said Aitchison.
“I’m really looking forward to having a full season with them, so hopefully they can all come down from the start and get behind us. We want to get off to a really good start at The Incora County Ground in front of our Members.
“It’s an aim of mine to take part in the East Midlands Derby, it’s a massive game to play and we owe them one after last year, I’m really looking forward to playing in front of that crowd, when the ground is full.
“Playing at Queen’s Park again is something I’m looking forward to, I went there for the first time when we played Yorkshire in the Royal London Cup and you could tell how special it can be there.
“We haven’t talked too much about expectations this year, but we all have our own standards to uphold. Obviously, we want to finish as high up Division Two as we can and battle for promotion if we get the opportunity, Mickey will give us every chance to do that.
“There’s a bit more pressure on all of the bowlers this year, Sam [Conners] did brilliantly opening the bowling and I really enjoy bowling with him. There’s a bigger onus on us this year and we’re going to pull together as a bowling unit.”
