Derbyshire Abroad: du Plooy stars for South Western Districts

Wednesday 16th February 2022
& News

Leus du Plooy scored a career-best 186 for South Western Districts in their CSA Four-Day Franchise Series victory over Northern Cape Heat.

The Derbyshire batter was making his final appearance for SWD, before he returns to The Incora County Ground to link up with new Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, and he left them with an innings which will live long in the memory.

Arriving at the crease with the score 153-2, du Plooy was positive in his approach to the innings, hitting 21 fours and four sixes to score 186 off 227 balls, helping his side to a score of 555 and a lead of 204.

However, our 2021 Vitality Blast Player of the Year wasn’t out of the action long, claiming a catch off the final ball of the first over as SWD dismissed Northern Cape for 303, setting them a target of 100 to win.

Andre Malan (64 not out) and du Plooy (33 not out) guided their side home with an unbeaten partnership of 98.

Shan Masood is back in action for Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League later today. He will face Karachi Kings at Lahore, aiming to add to his 351 runs from seven innings so far.

Suranga Lakmal’s final Test series as a Sri Lanka player  has been rescheduled to begin on Friday 4 March, with the second Test to take place from Saturday 12 March.

The experienced seamer will retire from international cricket at the end of the series, before joining Derbyshire on a two-year deal.
