Mickey Arthur is pleased that Derbyshire have been able to move so quickly to secure the signing of Hayden Kerr until September.
Kerr, 25, has joined Derbyshire for all formats, after Suranga Lakmal picked a season-ending elbow injury. The all-rounder arrives after claiming 25 wickets at an average of just 15 in the recent Big Bash T20 competition.
An all-rounder, Kerr also struck a brilliant 98 not out for Sydney Sixers to get them to the 2021/22 BBL final, and Arthur says that the Club have reacted well to sign such a talent on short notice.
“We’ve been able to move quite quickly, it’s a tough world, in terms of visa regulations, so going for an Australian player was the way to go, because it was an easy visa,”
“Hayden fits our bill, he’s just had a really good season with the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash, he’s a left-arm fast bowler who can bowl at the death as well, and gives it a good whack with the bat.
“I spoke to Andy Flower about him, who rates him really highly, so he comes with a good endorsement because Andy’s someone I respect and if he says someone is a good player, they generally are.
“Hayden’s also been part of the IPL with Lucknow Super Giants, albeit he didn’t play, but he’s been part of a successful campaign. He brings a whole lot to us, it will be his first time in England and he wants to make a mark.
“That’s the kind of player we want, someone who wants to come in and make a difference and prove themselves. I couldn’t be happier with our new signing.”
