Dressing room culture made decision to stay easy for Dal

Anuj Dal says the environment around the Derbyshire squad under Mickey Arthur made his decision to sign a new two-year deal with the Club an easy one.

Dal, who has been ever-present under Arthur this season, will remain at The Incora County Ground until the end of the 2024 campaign after scoring one century and six half-centuries for Derbyshire since debuting in 2019.

The all-rounder also has 30 first-class wickets to his name and has become a key member of Derbyshire’s seam attack, alongside the likes of Sam Conners and Suranga Lakmal.

Having endured a difficult 2021 season, Dal says the arrival of Arthur, and the positivity he’s brought to the Club, makes him optimistic about the Club’s future, something he’s delighted to be a part of.

“Last year was a bit of a rollercoaster one for me, it was full of emotions,” he said.

“With a new Head of Cricket coming in, I’ve had the opportunity to show the kind of player I can be, and with Mickey Arthur in that role, it was a no-brainer for me to sign for as long as possible. It’s come at a perfect time for me and I’m pleased to commit to the Club moving forward.

“We’ve always been a very tight group, last year was difficult because, like supporters, we take bad results very personally, they hit us hard. We knew we weren’t far away from putting in good performances, but the appointment of Mickey, and the way he communicates with us, has been the key thing I think we’ve missed in the past.”

“We’ve signed two quality overseas and you can see how big a boost it’s given our squad, the vibe it’s all brought around the dressing room. Mickey calls the ground ‘Fortress Incora’, that’s what we want it to be known as and how we want our Club to be known.”
