Interview: Madsen emphasises desire to win trophies with Derbyshire

Tuesday 24th May 2022

Wayne Madsen says Mickey Arthur’s blueprint for success, and his own desire to win trophies with Derbyshire were a key factor behind the decision to extend his storied career with the Club.

Madsen, who is the Club’s fourth-highest run-scorer of all-time, has extended his Derbyshire contract into a 15th season after enjoying a strong start to the 2022 campaign under Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur.

With the Vitality Blast beginning this week, Madsen says Arthur’s ambitions for Derbyshire to lift silverware was something that made signing a new deal an easy decision, as it matches his own desire to bring success to the county.

“For me, it’s all about wanting to win trophies, and Mickey has come in with that mantra,” he said.

“That’s what excites me, we’ve gone a long time without winning a trophy and that drive to win a trophy, win a competition, is what’s going to drive me forward.”
