Derbyshire batter, Shan Masood, has been nominated for the PCA Player of the Month award, after a stellar start to the 2022 LV= County Championship season.

Pakistan opener, Masood, sits atop the County Championship run-scoring chart, with an incredible 713 from just six innings at an average of 118.83, including successive double-centuries against Sussex and Leicestershire.

He fell narrowly short of the world-record for first-class runs scored in the month of April (715), which was set by Nick Compton for Somerset back in 2012, but Masood’s performances have been a key part of Derbyshire’s unbeaten start to the season under Mickey Arthur.

Second in the Division Two table, with one win and three draws, Derbyshire must wait until Thursday 12 May to begin their next fixture against Worcestershire at The Incora County Ground.

Masood has been nominated for the first PCA Player of the Month award of the campaign, alongside Kent’s Ben Compton, Hampshire’s Keith Barker and Yorkshire’s Harry Brook,  with the Derbyshire man currently leading the MVP rankings on 130.01 points

The nominees are selected by the PCA’s MVP, which is designed to identify the game’s top performers. The MVP takes into consideration batting and bowling statistics as well as taking into account key match-defining contributions using a unique algorithm developed with CricViz – cricket’s leading analytics experts.

The MVP will run throughout the 2022 campaign, and winners will be announced for each domestic competition, including an overall winner across multi formats.
