As England and India’s Commonwealth Games drew to a close, we take a look at how they got on in Birmingham, ahead of their blockbuster T20 clash at The Incora County Ground this September.
The match, which will take place on Tuesday 13 September, will see Commonwealth Games silver medallists, India, take on fourth-placed England, as Heather Knight’s side aim to extend their unbeaten streak at Derby, which has been running since 2017.
The two sides gave a thrilling teaser of what to expect, as they played out a tense encounter at Edgbaston in the semi-finals, with India eventually coming out on top by just four runs.
Smriti Mandhana got India off to the perfect start, hitting an excellent 61 off just 32 balls, including eight fours and three sixes, before 44 from Jemimah Rodrigues helped her side to 164-5.
In response, Nat Sciver (41), Danni Wyatt (35) and Amy Jones (31) all made important contributions, but England fell narrowly short on 160-6 from their 20 overs.
India would go on to claim the silver medal, after losing to Australia in the final, while England were defeated by New Zealand in the bronze medal game.
