Local league finals hosted at The Incora County Ground

& News

The 2022 Derbyshire County Cricket League Finals were hosted at The Incora County Ground, with two trophies being lifted on Thursday night.

The first game of the day saw Derby Congregational CC First XI take on Ockbrook & Borrowash CC Second XI for the Butterley Cup, and would see what is likely to be one of the wildest finishes to a game this season!

Chasing 143 to win, Derby Congregational CC looked down and out with two balls to go, needing ten to win and their number nine batter, Waqas Siddique, yet to score. However, a well placed four gave hope to the batting side, before Siddique smashed a huge six to secure victory for his side.

Amarjit Singh had earlier struck a crucial 42 to keep his team’s chase going, hitting four fours and a six in his 28-ball stay at the crease, while Steve Scrimshaw (2-11) was the pick of the Ockbrook & Borrowash CC bowlers.

The second and final fixture of the day saw Sandiacre Town CC First XI face Spondon CC First XI for the O J Jackson Cup, with Spondon setting a target of 128 to win, after some tight bowling from the likes of Dan Wheeldon (2-19) and Akhil Patel (2-16).

Paul Allen top-scored with 73 from just 40 balls for Spondon, and Jack Gorbert (3-17) made a big impact with the ball, but it was Sandiacre Town who would lift the trophy, after reaching their target with just one ball to spare.
