Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, will coach the Dambulla franchise during the 2022 Lanka Premier League.

Arthur, who previously coached the Sri Lankan national team prior to joining Derbyshire last year, will lead the side during the tournament, which runs from Tuesday 6 December until Friday 23 December.

Arthur is not the only member of the Derbyshire coaching team working overseas this winter, with Assistant Coach, Bowling Lead, Ajmal Shahzad, currently working at the Abu Dhabi T10 with Dehli Bulls, before linking up with Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League early next year.

Arthur says the opportunity to work in a different environment during the winter will give him the opportunity to view how white ball cricket is evolving around the world, bringing that knowledge back to Derbyshire for the 2023 campaign.

The stint will also give Arthur the chance to catch up with fast bowler, Suranga Lakmal, who will also be taking part in the Lanka Premier League after recovering from the elbow injury which saw him miss much of his first season with Derbyshire.

“I’m really excited to be going back to Sri Lanka and working with Dambulla,” said Arthur.

“This allows me to experience the thrill and adrenaline of a matchday during our off-season, keeping in touch with the different strategies and tactics in the white ball game around the world.

“With Ajmal [Shahzad] working at the T10 & PSL, and Ian Bell working with the England Lions & T10, we’re giving great opportunities not only to our players, but our support staff as well and that just re-enforces that Derbyshire is a Club moving in the right direction.

“While I’ll be in Sri Lanka, I will have one eye firmly on Derbyshire and I will be sure none of our standards slip as we plan for the new campaign. I will be seeing Suranga Lakmal too, who will be returning for our 2023 season”

Elsewhere, Harry Came played a match-winning knock for Claremont, scoring an unbeaten 60 in an eight-wicket win over Ottoman Crickey Club.

In Australia, Brooke Guest (11, South Perth), Luis Reece (3, Gosnells) and Archie Harrison (Northern Districts) all tasted defeat and will be hoping to return to form this weekend.

Sam Conners claimed the wicket of Ollie Pope, as the England Lions took on the England Men’s Test team in the UAE, as the latter prepare for their upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
