The BRM Solicitors Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council, returns in 2023, and it promises to be one of the biggest ever, with Derbyshire facing Yorkshire in both red ball and white ball cricket.
In 2022, Derbyshire won two out of three fixtures at Queen’s Park, with only a narrow one-wicket defeat in the One-Day Cup denying Mickey Arthur’s side a clean sweep under the spire.
Next season, however, will see Derbyshire host Yorkshire not just in the Vitality Blast on Sunday 18 June, but also in the LV= County Championship as both sides target a crucial victory to boost their promotion chances.
A rivalry which attracts supporters from both camps to Chesterfield in their numbers, next season could see five action-packed days of cricket played in front of a passionate Queen’s Park crowd, with bragging rights up for grabs in two formats.
Derbyshire have won four Vitality Blast games in-a-row at Queen’s Park, all against Yorkshire, and the Falcons will want to keep that record going as they target another place in the knockout stages next year.
Last year, Leus du Plooy smashed the Falcons to a dramatic final-over win, by smashing two sixes and a four to win the match with two balls to spare, while in the first-class encounter, Derbyshire completed an impressive three-day victory over Middlesex.
The Chesterfield Festival of Cricket remains one of the most popular events in Derbyshire’s cricketing calendar and with two huge matches against the White Rose county, 2023 promises to be no different.
