Derbyshire captain, Leus du Plooy, and spinner, Mark Watt, will begin their SA20 and International League T20 campaigns respectively this week.

Having helped Boland Rocks to the CSA T20 Challenge semi-finals earlier this winter, du Plooy will be aiming to show off his white-ball credentials in the inaugural SA20 season for Joburg Super Kings, whose first game takes on Wednesday against Durban Super Giants from 3.30pm. The competition will be shown live on Sky Sports Cricket throughout January.

Scotland spinner, Mark Watt, will also be in action over in the U.A.E, having been picked up by the Desert Vipers for the first-ever ILT20 season. The 26-year-old starred for his country at the recent ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, taking five wickets at an average of 14 and an economy of less than six across three matches. Their first game is against Sharjah Warriors on Sunday.

Derbyshire batter, Wayne Madsen, was also due to take part in the tournament, but was forced to withdraw after undergoing shoulder surgery for an injury picked up midway through the 2022 campaign. Madsen is recovering well and was back in training before the turn of the year, with the 39-year-old on course to be fit for the start of the 2023 English domestic season.

In Australia, Mitch Wagstaff scored an unbeaten half-century as Corowa defeated Wodonga by seven wickets, while in the Western Australian Cricket Association First Grade, Luis Reece (37, Gosnells) and Brooke Guest (14, South Perth) tasted defeat.

Derbyshire spinner, Sarah Glenn, has been named in the England squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad, which will take place in South Africa next month.

Glenn, who returned to Derbyshire this winter after a spell with Worcestershire, is ranked number two in ICC T20 bowling rankings, behind England teammate, Sophie Ecclestone.

Since making her international debut in 2019, Glenn has become an integral part of the England white ball attack, claiming 48 T20 wickets at an average of just 17.08.
