& News

As Pakistan international, Haider Ali, prepares to spend the 2023 season with Derbyshire, we take a look at the career of our newest young star so far.

Despite being just 22-years-old, Haider Ali has been a prominent name on the international cricket scene for three years, having impressed at the ICC Under 19s World Cup in 2020, before making his senior debut for his nation later that year.

Haider Ali made his first team debut for Rawalpindi in the 2018 National T20 Cup, before bursting onto the first-class scene with a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy debut 99 for Northern the following year.  He would lead Northern to the final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, scoring 134 as his side finished runners-up to Central Punjab, capping off a campaign which saw him score two centuries and three half-centuries in just seven appearances.

A flurry of impressive domestic white ball showings led him to selection for the Pakistan senior men’s team, making his IT20 debut against England at Emirates Old Trafford and stealing the show with a stylish 54 from 33 balls.

The promising right-hander has gone on to hit a further two international half-centuries, with 66 not out against Zimbabwe at Rawalpindi in 2020 and 68 against West Indies in Karachi in 2021.

In the Pakistan Super League, Haider Ali played a number of memorable innings since his debut in 2020, when he helped Peshawar Zalmi to the final. He has a career strike rate of 139.2 in the competition, with 49 fours and 25 sixes from 28 innings.

He was part of the Pakistan squad which finished as runners-up in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, appearing twice, and will be aiming to build his record in all formats during his spell with Derbyshire.
