& News

Sarah Glenn claimed two crucial wickets, as England beat India to book their place in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup with a game to spare.

Derbyshire spinner, Glenn, dismissed star batters Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues, as England recovered from a difficult start at Gqeberha to defend their total of 151-7.

Glenn is England’s second-leading wicket-taker in the competition, with six dismissals at an average of just 11 and an economy of 5.50 runs per over. Only Sophie Ecclestone, the number-one ranked T20 bowler in the world, has a better record for the nation so far.

England face Pakistan in their final group game on Tuesday, aiming to secure top spot in group two, with the semi-finals set to be played on Thursday and Friday, ahead of the final on Sunday.

Mark Watt passed 50 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League Two wickets, by taking 4-41 to beat Namibia, as Scotland secured their place at the top of the table. They have also qualified for the ICC World Cup qualifyer in Zimbabwe later this year.

Haider Ali’s Karachi Kings picked up their first win of the 2023 Pakistan Super League season, defeating Lahore Qalanders. The batter, who will join Derbyshire for the entire English domestic season, has one half-century to his name so far and will be hoping to fire his side up the table in back-to-back games against Ajmal Shahzad’s Multan Sultans this week.

Derbyshire Assistant Coach (Bowling Lead), Shahzad, is working with the Multan Sultans fast bowlers, and his influence has been clear to see, with strong bowling performances contributing to three wins out of four games so far.
