Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, has agreed to become Director of the Pakistan men’s national team, secondary to his commitments at The Incora County Ground.

Last season, Arthur guided the Club to its collective best all-formats results since 1996, before signing a contract extension to remain with Derbyshire until the end of the 2025 summer. Around his Derbyshire commitments, he will work with the Pakistan international side during the English off-season, including the ICC World Cup in October and November, while also providing advice and strategic support to the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Derbyshire Chief Executive, Ryan Duckett, said: “Mickey was approached by the Pakistan Cricket Board over the Christmas period and he was always very open with the Club, contacting me immediately and committing to Derbyshire.

“A coach of Mickey’s calibre will naturally attract attention; however I am delighted by his continued dedication to his role, the group of players and Club as a whole.

“Derbyshire remains Mickey’s main focus, however he continues to be an ambitious coach and having our Head of Cricket lead Pakistan in the ICC World Cup, as well as in international series’, will be a great opportunity for our Club to be represented on the world stage.

“There is no doubt that in his first year with Derbyshire, he galvanised what was already a talented squad and backroom team, while he is now focused on further on-field improvements this summer and to challenge for silverware.”

Arthur added: “It’s no secret that I loved my first stint with Pakistan and I’m delighted to be working with the PCB again, but I want to reaffirm my commitment to Derbyshire. Our project is one I am determined to see through and I will be giving my all to ensure we remain on the right path.

“My role with Derbyshire allows me to undertake work and do coaching outside of the English season, and the opportunity to lead Pakistan in all formats means that I can help their national game, while also taking learnings back to the Club.

“I will be proud to take Derbyshire onto the wider stage and showcase the heights that playing for our Club can help players and coaches to reach. It remains my aim to be the county of choice.”
