Derbyshire sign Donald on short-term loan

Thursday 18th May 2023

Derbyshire have signed Hampshire wicketkeeper-batter, Aneurin Donald, on a short-term loan.

The 26-year-old will provide cover for Brooke Guest, who is awaiting scan results having left the field during the Second XI T20 on Tuesday with a minor hamstring strain.

Donald, who scored 234 from just 136 deliveries in a world-record innings for Glamorgan against Derbyshire in 2016, has played in 58 T20 matches, scoring 947 runs.

The right-hander has five T20 half-centuries to his name, including a top-score of 76, and he will join-up with the Falcons squad for the Second XI T20 at Emirates Old Trafford on Thursday.

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “We need short-term cover for Brooke while he gets back to full fitness and Aneurin is a very talented cricketer, who we feel will step into the wicketkeeper role well for us.

“He’s a well-established all-formats player and having returned from injury in 2022, he was part of a side which reached the semi-finals of the One-Day Cup and lifted the T20 trophy.”
