Pre-Match Pack: Northants Steelbacks (A) & Lancashire Lightning (A)

Derbyshire Falcons have named a 14-player squad for tomorrow’s Vitality Blast fixtures against Northants Steelbacks (tomorrow, 6.30pm) and Lancashire Lightning (Friday, 6.30pm). 

Having prodcuced the second-biggest ever Vitality Blast win by runs against Yorkshire Vikings on Sunday, the Falcons will be aiming to strengthen their chances of a quarter-final spot with back-to-back away games.

Leus du Plooy stuck an unbeaten 66 in that game, while Brooke Guest also finished strongly with 39 from just 18 balls. Haider Ali has scored 281 runs across his last six T20 innings and will hope to continue that form this week.

Zak Chappell (19) has the joint-second most wickets in this season’s Vitality Blast, and with four games to go will be targetting the Club-record of 23 wickets in a T20 campaign. Zaman Khan (16) and George Scrimshaw (15) have combined for more than 30 dismissals between them.

The Opposition

Northants Steelbacks are in eighth place in the north group table, with four wins and six defeats to their name, while Lancashire Lightning are joint-top on 12 points, along with Notts Outlaws, Yorkshire Vikings and Birmingham Bears.

For the Steelbacks, Ricardo Vasconcelos his scored three half-centuries, while big-hitting batter Chris Lynn has 231 runs to his name, including one century. With the ball, Freddie Heldreich (16 wickets) and AJ Tye (15 wickets) have been impressive.

Lancashire Lightning are able to call on a squad containing a host of international players, including Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Saqib Mahmood and Daryl Mitchell. Fast bowler, Luke Wood, has been one of the standouts for the Old Trafford side, having claiming 13 wickets and maintaining an economy of 7.73.

Derbyshire captain, Leus du Plooy, gives his take on an important victory at Queen’s Park as the Falcons remain in the hunt for a quarter-final spot.

The skipper scored an unbeaten 66 from just 32 balls, as the Falcons extended their T20 unbeaten streak at Chesterfield to six games.

After a 144-win, du Plooy assesses the impressive all-round performance and looks ahead to Derbyshire’s remaining fixtures.
