Arthur praises Derbyshire after Durham draw

Mickey Arthur believes Derbyshire can take a lot of postives from their LV= County Championship draw against Durham.

Brooke Guest scored a career-best 197, and Sam Conners claimed his first five-wicket haul of the season as Derbyshire competed well with the runaway Division Two leaders, while Luis Reece and Harry Came put on an unbeaten 89-run first-wicket partnership to end Day Three before Day Four was entirely washed out.

Having seen his side match Durham in a variety of areas at The Incora County Ground, Arthur says Derbyshire will have plenty of momentum to take into next week’s fixture against Glamorgan.

“There was some really good cricket, I thought Brooke Guest’s hundred was pure class and the good thing for me is that he’s done it back-to-back and that’s something we keep reiterating in our dressing room, we don’t want to be a flash in the pan one day and not contribute the next.

“I thought Sammy Conners bowled really well, in an attack that to be honest took a bit of a battering, he kept on coming back and it was so good to see him get five wickets because it was just reward for that.

“I really enjoyed the way Reecey (Luis Reece) and Camo (Harry Came) went about their business last night, they showed the composure, the skill, the technique and the intensity that I’m looking for from our opening pair so there were so many good bits.

“There were some tough bits as well, we got taken apart a little bit on day two, Lees and Bedingham both played really well. They’re two of the upper echelon batters you’ll face in Div Two but again that’s the standard and we need to be better and learn from that. Other than that we leave the game having evenly competed.”
