Derbyshire are thrilled to announce the signing of top-order batter David Lloyd from Glamorgan at the end of the 2023 season. Here, we take an in-depth look at our newest signing.
Appointed Glamorgan captain for first-class and T20 formats at the end of 2021, Lloyd brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the Derbyshire squad across all formats. Over his 11-year professional career so far, Lloyd has 7,527 runs, as well as 123 wickets to date.
Lloyd made his Glamorgan second XI debut aged just 16 in 2008, but had to wait patiently before making his Glamorgan first-class debut in 2012, aged 20. He has gone on to make 102 appearances in the format, amassing 4,854 runs and claiming 96 wickets.
2015 was a breakout year for the Welshman, as Lloyd topped Glamorgan’s batting averages as well as claiming Young Player of the Year.
More recently, fans will remember the exploits of Lloyd as last season the batter notched an incredible 313 not out against Derbyshire, which is the highest ever score made by a Glamorgan captain. It is also the highest ever first-class score made by a Welshman.
In the shorter format, Lloyd can provide extremely useful contributions with bat and ball. He has registered ten half-centuries in T20 cricket with a high score of 97 not out. Lloyd currently sits fourth on the list of Glamorgan all-time T20 run-scorers, but has been unable to add to his tally during this season due to a hamstring issue, ruling him out of playing any part in the tournament.
In List-A cricket, Lloyd has a top-score of 92, and six half-centuries to date. Seen as more of a change bowler, Lloyd has his best figures across all formats in List A cricket, claiming 5-53 against Kent in 2017.
