Some of the world’s highest-ranked players will go head-to-head at The Incora County Ground this September, when England Women host Sri Lanka in international Twenty20 action.
Chamari Athapaththu has recently become the first Sri Lankan woman to be ranked as the number one ODI batter in the world, and she will be key to the visitors’ hopes of toppling England in Derby. The 33-year-old has scored more than 5,000 international runs and recently struck two unbeaten centuries in three innings against New Zealand, as Sri Lanka took the series 2-1 and secured valuable points in the ICC Women’s Championship.
England’s Sophie Ecclestone is ranked as the world’s best bowler in both T20s and ODIs, with Derbyshire’s Sarah Glenn ranked number three in the shorter format. All-rounder, Nat Sciver-Brunt and fast bowler, Issy Wong, lifted silverware in the inaugural Women’s Premier League in India and will be looking to increase their mark on the white ball game.
The Incora County Ground has be one of the country’s premiere venues for women’s cricket for a number of years, and it has been a happy hunting ground for England, who have only lost once in Derby since 2017.
