Haider Ali has been called up to the Pakistan squad for the Asian Games, bringing an end to his time with Derbyshire.

Ali, 22, has been ever-present for Derbyshire this season in all formats, scoring more than 1,000 runs and recording a high-score of 146 in the LV= County Championship fixture against Yorkshire at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.

The 2023 Asian Games will take place in Hangzhou, China, in September and October, with Twenty20 cricket making its third appearance, having previously been played at the 2010 and 2014 games.

Haider Ali has been named in the Pakistan squad for the Asian Games, and as a result, his time with the Club has come to an end.

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said:”Haider has been brilliant in the dressing room, he’s matured as a person and the Haider Ali who leaves Derbyshire is better than the one who arrived.

“This is a chance for Haider to go and play on another big stage for his country and perform; it will be an important step in his development.”
