Derbyshire are thrilled to announce the signing of Aneurin Donald from Hampshire on a two-year contract.  Here, we take an in-depth look at Donald’s career so far.

The 26-year-old powerful batter is no stranger to Derbyshire, having spent a short period of time on loan during the Vitality Blast campaign earlier this season.  He played two games, with a high score of 30 not out, offering cover for the Falcons in the absence of the injured Brooke Guest.

The right-handed batter is capable of producing match-winning, destructive knocks in all forms of the game.  Not only does Donald offer qualities with the bat, but he is also a handy wicketkeeper and a good fielder as well.

Donald first burst onto the scene in 2016 by equalling the fastest ever double hundred in first-class cricket off just 123 balls.  The unfortunate team on the receiving end of this was Derbyshire, as Donald went on to eventually score 234 off 136 balls in what was his maiden County Championship hundred.

He has scored a further two centuries, as well as 18 fifties in first-class cricket, amassing over 3,000 runs at an average of 31.5.  But it is the shorter formats where Donald is more renowned, having developed as a brilliant finisher and powerful ball striker.  Not only does Donald offer qualities with the bat, but he is also a handy wicketkeeper and a good fielder as well.

Donald has five half-centuries in T20s as well as four in List A cricket.  The batter has just over 2,000 runs combined in both formats to date, as well as making a big impact in List A cricket this season gone.

In the Metro Bank One-Day Cup this year, Donald smashed back-to-back centuries against Kent and Worcestershire.  His spectacular knock against Worcestershire came off 63 balls, helping his side into the semi-finals, before eventually falling short in the final against Leicestershire.

Donald joins Derbyshire having already spent many years playing with another Derbyshire new recruit, David Lloyd, as both men were on the playing staff at Glamorgan at the same time.
