The Derbyshire squad will ramp up their preparations for the new season with a week of warm weather training at Desert Springs in Spain this month.
The group has been split during the winter months, with a number of players in competitive match action overseas, while the remaining members of the squad have been working through an intense training programme at The County Ground.
The squad and coaching group will head out to Spain on Tuesday 12 March, with a schedule of intense outdoor net and fielding sessions planned, as they prepare for the new campaign, which begins with the County Championship fixture against Gloucestershire on Friday 5 April.
Desert Spings has long been a favoured training camp destination for Derbyshire, even becoming a regular feature for the Pathway’s pre-season plans in recent years.
Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “Being able to get outside early and train in the warm weather before we would be able to at home is crucial to our preparations for the season, and Desert Springs provides the perfect high-quality facility.
“We’ve had a lot of players getting match action abroad this winter, so Desert Springs will be the first time we’ve had our full squad, other than our overseas players, training and that’s very exciting.
“As a coach, you say every year is the best pre-season you’ve ever had, and of course that will only been proven by what happens out on the field, but I believe we’re in a really good place, all signs so far are pointing to us being in great shape for the start of the season.”
