The Opposition
Yorkshire sit third in the Vitality County Championship Division Two, with 99 points to their name.
Evergreen opener, Adam Lyth, has once again led the way for the White Rose this summer, scoring 732 first-class runs at an average of 61, including four centuries.
With the ball, Ben Coad has picked up 21 wickets and will be aiming for another impressive showing at Queen’s Park, while Jordan Thompson will be looking to build on his 19 dismissals this season.
Pre-Match Talk
Derbyshire Batter, Wayne Madsen, is excited to play at Queen’s Park once again, and is hopeful of a strong performance against Yorkshire.
“There were a lot of positives to take from the game at Lord’s last week – although we had two bad sessions – for the most of the game we played some really good cricket.
Reflecting on the bowling against Middlesex in the last time out, Madsen said: “Thommo bowled fantastically throughout the game and going into the fixture at Chesterfield – as we know – spinners play a big part.
“It’s exciting for him, especially off the back of how he bowled at Lord’s to now go into this game high on confidence, I’m sure he’ll have a big impact.”
“I love playing at Chesterfield, it’s a wonderful place to play cricket. It’s such a picturesque ground, great atmosphere, the trees that surround the ground, the atmosphere is pretty special, it’s unique.
After scoring a century against Yorkshire earlier in the season at Headingley, Madsen is keen to replicate the feat as the White Rose head to Queen’s Park, starting on Sunday.
“I’m excited about playing against Yorkshire and I’m confident after the last time we played them up at Headingley.
“We want to improve on what we did last year against them however. We fought back brilliantly to nearly beat them and this year we’ll aim to start better and play some good cricket throughout the game and end on top.”
