Caleb Jewell lifted the Big Bash trophy with Hobart Hurricanes, Pat Brown claimed an England Lions hat-trick and Blair Tickner continued his exceptional campaign in New Zealand, in another successful week for our players overseas.

Overseas signings:

Australian batter, Caleb Jewell, guided Hobart Hurricanes to their first Big Bash title, as part of a century opening stand with the big-hitting Mitch Owen.

Jewell played a match-winning knock of 76 to secure top-spot in the penultimate group game earlier in the competition, before starting both knockout fixtures, as Hobart romped to their maiden championship.

Both of Derbyshire’s 2025 overseas recruits could yet taste T20 success, with Blair Tickner’s Central Stags currently top of New Zealand’s Super Smash table, having lost just two of their nine games so far.

Tickner, who is the leading wicket-taker in New Zealand’s domestic game this season, sits atop the T20 wicket charts with 13 dismissals to his name so far. Central Stags are the first team to secure their place at Finals Weekend, which begins this Saturday.

Both players have committed to Derbyshire for all formats in 2025, and you can see every moment with Membership.

England representation:

Fast bowler, Pat Brown, claimed a hat-trick on his way to figures of 5-21 for England Lions against a Cricket Australia XI at Brisbane, while Harry Moore was also in action for England Under 19s.

Brown, who claimed the most 2024 Vitality Blast wickets of any fast bowler in the North Group (22), showed off his red-ball prowess in England colours, dismissing five of the CAXI top seven, as the Lions skittled them for 214 in the first innings.

The 26-year-old, who has represented England at senior level four times, also picked up two dismissals in the second innings, as England Lions battled to a draw.

Moore, 17, featured in all three Youth ODIs between England Under 19s and South Africa, picking up three wickets. He will be hoping to feature in the second Youth Test match, which begins on Monday 3 February.

Coaches:

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, is chasing his second T20 title of the winter with Rangpur Riders, who are top of the Bangladesh Premier League after ten games.

Arthur already lifted the inaugural Global Super League trophy with Rangpur in December, with a squad containing Derbyshire duo Zak Chappell and Wayne Madsen.

Second XI Coach and Head of Analytics, Chris Highton, guided England Men’s Physical Disability team to the final of the Physical Disability Champions Trophy, where they finished as runners up to India.

Batting Coach, Ben Smith, is currently working with Blair Tickner’s Central Stags in the Super Smash, with the team already having qualified for the upcoming Finals Weekend.

Overseas Club Cricket

Harry Came has once again linked up with Claremont Cricket Club in South Africa and will be looking to get some valuable time in the middle before returning to The County Ground at the end of March.

Jack Morley continues to have a good campaign at Mont Albert Cricket Club, with 26 wickets at 17.08 to his name. His side are currently second in the table and will face table-toppers Old Carey in the final fixture of the season.

Fresh off the back of a half-century this weekend, Luis Reece is closing in on 500 runs for the season at Gosnells Cricket Club. With the ball, the left-armer has claimed 26 wickets at 19.31 and with the side sat mid table, they will be hoping for a strong finish to the season.
