Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, has signed a one-year contract extension with Derbyshire, keeping him at The County Ground until the end of the 2026 season.

A world-renowned Head Coach, Arthur joined the Club in 2021, having gained a breadth of experience in international cricket with South Africa, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The ICC Champions Trophy-winning coach has overseen a period of transition for Derbyshire, with the likes of Pat Brown and Harry Moore gaining England Lions honours under the tutelage of Arthur and his coaching team.

He has also shown a commitment to bringing through young talent into the side, with Nick Potts, Mitch Wagstaff, Yousaf Bin Naeem and Harry Moore all making multi-format debuts for the Club in recent seasons.

Non-Executive Director – Cricket, Tom Poynton, said: “Mickey has worked hard over the last three seasons to lay the groundwork for our long-term project.

“Results over the last two years, particularly in red-ball cricket, have not been as I or our supporters desired, but I know that Mickey is committed to putting that right and we as a Board firmly believe he can bring success to Derbyshire.

“We have seen a number of young players make their debuts under him, and plenty of players have made the move to Derbyshire as a result of Mickey’s standing within the game. Building a structure to deliver long-term success takes time and I am looking forward to seeing this project progress over the coming seasons.”

Arthur added: “Derbyshire is a Club I have always had links with, even when I was learning the game under Eddie Barlow, but in the last three seasons my love for this Club has only grown and I’m pleased to extend my stay, as I feel at home here.

“I feel the frustrations of our Members and supporters when we don’t get the desired results, but we’re all focused on improving and bringing success to Derbyshire, because it would mean so much to all of us.

“The players, coaches, off-field staff and supporters are all pulling in the same direction, we want to become a competitive side, one that supporters are as proud to represent them, as we are to represent this great county.

“We have assembled a squad over the last few years with a balance of experience and some exceptional home-grown talent. We believe can compete across all formats and we can’t wait for the new season start.”
