& News

The County Ground will again once play host to the annual Bowling Out Gender Inequality Fixture between Opening Boundaries and the UK Armed Forces Women’s Cricket team.

After a successful outing in 2024, the fixture will take place at 1pm on Friday 20 June, as part of a special T20 double-header at The County Ground, with Derbyshire Falcons taking on Lancashire Lightning in the evening.

There will be a host of family-friendly and accessible activities to enjoy, in conjunction with the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation, to raise awareness of gender inequality.

Ryan Duckett, Chief Executive at Derbyshire County Cricket Club, said: “We’re pleased to be hosting the Bowling Out Gender Inequality Fixture again in 2025.

“2024’s fixture was a success and helped to raise awareness of this huge issue, which is prevalent both in and outside of sport. We were keen to work with Opening Boundaries and the Armed Forces again, and through our links with the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation and our key stakeholders within the community, we hope to make further strides to combat gender inequality in 2025.”

Mark Barber, Derbyshire Cricket Foundation Community and Partnerships Manager, said: “Derbyshire Cricket Foundation are delighted to be supporting the Bowling Out Gender Inequality fixture again for 2025.

“Women and Girls cricket continues to be a priority for our work as we strive to make cricket the most inclusive sport, so this fixture aligns with our ambitions.”

Halima Khan, founder of the campaign, added: “We are thrilled to be welcomed back by Derby County for this annual fixture with the Armed Forces. Once again, we eagerly anticipate a fantastic day dedicated to raising awareness for our campaign, Bowling Out Gender Inequality, and championing women in sport.

“Breaking down negative stereotypes surrounding women in sport is essential, and events like these provide a safe and inclusive space to foster meaningful conversations and bring people together.

“A heartfelt thank you to Derbyshire County Cricket Club and the Armed Forces for their continued support—we look forward to another incredible day!”
