Promising Derbyshire all-rounder, Joe Hawkins, has been called up to the England Under 19s squad for the second Test match against India, starting on Sunday at Chelmsford.
Hawkins, who is the Derbyshire Under 18s captain, featured for the Young Lions Invitational XI for fixtures against against both India and England Under 19s last month, impressing with bat and ball across the two games.
The young spinner ended the Second XI T20 competition with four wickets from five appearances and a miserly economy of just 5.10, while his sole Second XI Championship appearance this season garnered two wickets and one half-century. He will now join up with the Under 19s for the final Test of the series, which is currently locked 0-0.
Hawkins follows in the footsteps of Derbyshire Pathway graduate, Harry Moore, in representing England age groups in the past year. Moore also went on to represent England Lions in Australia last winter, alongside fellow Derbyshire quick, Pat Brown.
