Derbyshire Falcons have signed fast bowler, Rory Haydon, and batter, Amrit Basra, for the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, after impressive stints in the Second XI.
Haydon, 22, has claimed eight wickets in two Second XI Championship appearances this season, at an average of just 12.75 and best figures of 4-23 coming in a victory over Yorkshire, while he also took eight wickets in the Second XI T20, as Derbyshire fell just short of a place at Finals Day.
Basra, who has been a part of the South Asian Cricket Academy, has scored three red-ball half-centuries for the Second XI this season, including a high-score of 92.
Both players will be available for Derbyshire Falcons’ forthcoming Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign, which will see three first team players, Wayne Madsen, Aneurin Donald and Pat Brown, away for The Hundred.
Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “We needed to add some depth to our ranks for the 50-over competition, as we lose three key players to The Hundred, as well as the departure of Blair Tickner, who will leave us after next week’s game.
“Chris Highton has done an excellent job of identifying and developing talent in the Second XI, whether that’s our own talent from the Academy, or players who are without clubs but still have something to offer.
“We’re excited about what we’ve seen from both players, on and off the field, and they will be given the opportunity to show their quality throughout August.”
